Nightlife in Valladolid: 5 Zones Within a 10-Minute Walk of Calle Pasión
Valladolid doesn't have a nightlife district. It has five, and they all fit inside a ten-minute walking radius.
That changes how a night works. In a big city you pick a neighbourhood early and stay there because moving costs money and time. Here a full night can start with tapas on one street, continue on a square with terraces, move to a live music bar and end in a club — without taking transport once.
This guide goes zone by zone, ordered by distance from Calle Pasión, 9, two minutes from the Plaza Mayor. All times are walking.
1. Calle Correos — where the night starts · 2 min
What it is: Valladolid's best-known tapas street, around the corner from the Plaza Mayor. Not a drinking district — this is where you eat dinner standing up, moving bar to bar, before everything else.
How it works: order one pincho and one beer or wine, eat standing, pay, move to the next place. Nobody stays put. This is simply how dinner works here.
Where to go:
- El Corcho (Correos, 2) — the classic. Always packed, cheap, and the croquettes deserve their reputation.
- Restaurante Jero (Correos, 11) — inventive pinchos, handwritten menu on the wall, heavily decorated in competitions.
- El Cortijo (Correos, 3) — Andalusian style, generous portions. Closed Mondays.
- La Bodeguita (Correos, 13 bis) — quieter, strong Ribera and Rueda wine list.
- La Vermutería de Correos (Correos, 3) — Sunday-lunchtime vermouth, a local institution.
Budget: €10–15 per person for three or four pinchos with drinks. Hours: most stop serving around 23:30. Arrive before 22:00 on a Friday or you won't get near the bar.
Local tip: on the first Thursday of November, Valladolid holds its national pincho competition. This whole street fills up and bars serve their competition entries at a fixed price. It's arguably the best eating night of the year in this city.
2. Plaza Martí y Monsó, "el Coca" — the centre of gravity · 3 min
What it is: a pedestrian square ringed with bars on all four sides, terraces filling from midday and running into the small hours. Everyone in Valladolid calls it "el Coca". It's the default meeting point — if you arrange to meet people and nobody suggests anywhere, you end up here.
Where to go:
- Caruso — live music and well-made drinks, terrace on the square. Friday and Saturday until 04:30.
- Café Bar La Tuba — characterful interior, cocktail-bar atmosphere, weekends until 04:00–04:30.
- Mombasa — the square's late option, Thursday to Saturday until 04:00–04:30. Closed Sundays.
- Monsó — more tapas and wine, overlooking the fountain. Open from midday daily.
Budget: beers €2.50–3.50, spirits €6–8. Terraces cost a little more than the bar, as everywhere in Spain. When: Thursday is the traditional student night. Friday and Saturday the square is full from eleven.
3. Plaza de Cantarranas — the alternative · 6 min
What it is: a small square east of the centre, near the Cathedral, with a different feel to el Coca: less crowded, more relaxed terrace drinking, a broader mix of people, lower prices. If el Coca feels like too much, this is your square.
Where to go:
- La Bicicleta Cantarranas (Pl. de Cantarranillas, 6) — cheap beer and one of the best terraces in the centre. Open from midday every day.
- Desván del Deseo — decorated with vintage neon signs, DJ sets, openly LGBTQ+-friendly. Wednesday to Sunday, weekends until 04:30.
- El Farol de Cantarranas — large, big terrace on the square, moderate prices. Thursday to Saturday until 04:00–04:30.
- Matilda (C. de Ebanistería, 16) — craft beer, genuinely good vegetarian options, living-room atmosphere.
Budget: the cheapest of the five zones. Beers from €2.20. When: any spring or autumn evening with the terraces out. More of an early-evening area than a 4 a.m. one.
4. Barrio de la Antigua and Doncellas — live music · 8 min
What it is: the alternative circuit. Bars with gig listings — rock, indie, electronic — away from the reggaeton. If you care what's playing, this is your area.
Where to go:
- Bizarro Bar Independiente (C. Arribas, 18) — independent bar with gigs and real personality. Open daily, weekends until 04:30.
- El Desierto Rojo (C. de las Doncellas, 5) — the city's reference point for Spanish rock. Thursday to Saturday until 04:30.
- El Tío Molonio (C. de los Alamillos, 9) — classic student bar with a big terrace and live sets. Closed Sundays.
- Sala Cientocero (C. Gamazo, 17) — an actual concert venue with a booking calendar.
Budget: gig tickets €8–20 depending on the act. Drinks in line with the rest of the centre. When: check listings rather than turning up blind. Here the line-up sets the night, not the day of the week.
5. The club run — after the bars close · 5 to 20 min
What it is: what's still open after three.
- Shutton (P.º Isabel la Católica, 10) — closest, 5 minutes. Friday and Saturday only, 23:00–04:30. Live music room and DJ sets.
- Coocon Club (Calle Pasión, 13) — literally the same street. Open until 06:30 on Friday and Saturday. Very young crowd and graduation nights; it is what it is, but it's thirty seconds from the door.
- Discoteca Sheraton (C. Vega, 23) — 15 minutes. Several different sessions, broad crowd, cheap entry.
- Buddha Club (C. Colmenares, 10) — 15 minutes. Three rooms, Thursday to Saturday.
- Maraca (P.º de Zorrilla, 48) — 20 minutes. Tuesday to Saturday until 06:30. The midweek option.
Budget: €10–15 entry, usually including a drink. Drinks €7–9.
An honest warning: club opening hours and door policies change often and aren't always transparent. Check their social media the same day, and carry physical ID — DNI, passport or your NIE card. Photos on your phone are frequently refused, which catches out international students in particular.

Getting home: from Calle Pasión, 9 all five zones are ten minutes or less on foot. If you end up out on Paseo de Zorrilla, AUVASA's night bus (búho) costs €1.40 a trip, and a taxi within the centre rarely exceeds €8.
